AM HELLBERG MOBERG

independent multilingual writer

books

After over a decade as a travel writer and journalist, AM Hellberg Moberg started branching out into fiction and poetry in 2016, initially dividing her time between fiction and travel writing.

Her first work of fiction, How Pat Got Her Five Cats – A Tale For Cat Lovers, was published in hardback and Kindle versions in May 2019, with illustrations by Dani Bergson (www.danibergson.com).

Published later the same year, her second work of fiction, Boldly Into Darkness Go – A Collection Of Short Stories, is a collection of twelve tales, aimed at adults and tackling themes as varied as revenge, loneliness, sexual identity and jealousy. For the summer of 2020 a new, expanded version with 18 short stories is available as a one-off anniversary edition.

She is also the author of Hug-Snow Days, a more light-hearted winter’s fairy tale about three sisters and an assortment of cats, with illustrations by Antonella Sands, who has also illustrated How Pat Met the Curry-Cat, a sequel to How Pat Got Her Five Cats.

Before embarking on her fiction career, AM Hellberg Moberg worked on many guidebooks to Scandinavia and Latin America, including the iconic South American Handbook (writing as Anna Maria Espsäter).

Her latest book, Wayward Wanderings, is a work of non-fiction with twenty-five travel tales from around the world. The book also includes over 40 of the author’s colour images.

Wayward Wanderings
Since actual travel is limited these days, I’d like to recommend a book I’m enjoying while waiting – stories from the travels of lifelong woman traveller, Wayward Wanderings, by Anna Maria Espsäter. A collection of all the quaint, funny, weird, inspiring, slightly dangerous and sometimes frustrating situations one gets into while wandering the world.

Hug-Snow Days
Thank you for such a magical and entertaining book. It is great as a book for people beginning to learn English, for individuals who love happy endings and fairy tales. I honestly love it.

How Pat Got Her Five Cats
This is a wonderful, sweet, witty story. The author has written about all five of Pat’s cats with such humour and truth that I felt I had met all of them “purrsonally.” The illustrations are charming, as well. It’s a heart-warming tale and an excellent gift for cat lovers of all ages.

Boldly Into Darkness Go
The short story is notoriously difficult to master, many prize-winning novelists have tried and failed to conquer it, but in this collection AM Hellberg Moberg succeeds. Each story has a unique reward, whether it is in making you laugh out loud, think twice or just feel the pure emotion of her truthful coming of age stories.
