Fiction newsletter March 2020

Dear network,

I wanted to check in with you all and make sure you’re doing as well as you possibly can in these difficult and troubled times.

Up until a few weeks ago I was fully focused on a year of giving talks at libraries, visiting book festivals and hopefully achieving my 50th birthday goal of getting to 100 countries. These seemed such key priorities, in no way could I envisage none of the above would happen, or even be particularly important, a couple of weeks down the line.
There’s nothing like a worldwide crisis to make you change your perspective!

I know many of my self-employed, creative friends are going through an unusually tough time of uncertainty and worry, in the UK and elsewhere. If you are able to support the creative industries from a distance/for the future, please consider chipping in, in any way you can.

I was intending to offer you a copy or two of my children’s books, if you have kids currently home from school, who need entertaining, but I’m slightly worried I’ll be promising too much – I may not be able to get to a post office e.g.
However, if you would like a copy of either How Pat Got Her Five Cats or Hug-Snow Days, please send me your address, specifying which book you’d like, and I’ll see what I can do.
If at a later date, you’re able to donate something to my Paypal account or do a review of either book, that would be lovely, but there’s no pressure/rush. I think at the moment we’re all just getting used to the new reality and trying to get by.

The talks I was planning to give in London are currently postponed, along with most other plans, but I trust that this crisis will eventually pass even if times are tough right now.

If anyone is in need of a pep talk (assuming I have any pep left) or just a general grumble about the state of the world, feel free to drop me a line on email, Messenger, WhatsApp or LinkedIn.
I’m also happy to chat to fellow creatives about fun post-virus plans – let’s try and come up with something positive out of all this mayhem. Write together online maybe or plot creative collaborations of all kinds. I’m open to ideas!

Hang on in there, look after yourselves and take care.
